    Game Camp this Summer!

After a successful first year, the Pierson Library Board Game Summer Camp is back!   This year, we will have even more games to choose from, two full-time instructors, an optional board game design session, and a more flexible game schedule; all for even more fun.

Modern board games are fun, engaging, offer a variety of choices, and reward thoughtful play. We will teach games which showcase the different mechanisms game designers use today to give unique experiences each time. Your child will acquire skills such as to strategize, budget, negotiate, evaluate chances, and all that in a playful, social and fun way. Weather permitting, some time will be spent with outdoor games. For ages 10 to 14 years; 15 campers max.

    It’s a beautiful piece!

Swale and The Nancy Druids March 30th at the Field House

Thanks to the Shelburne Field House, SWALE and The Nancy Druids for hosting this benefit concert for the library on March 30th, 8:00 to 11:30pm!

An “inside/outside” concert will be held at the Shelburne Field House to benefit the Shelburne Library and celebrate Earth Hour. The show will feature two Shelburne-based bands, SWALE and The Nancy Druids. The show will be on the INDOOR athletic field so there is room for blankets and lawn chairs, like a summer outdoor show.

Date: Saturday, March 30, from 8 to 11:30pm
Location: Shelburne Field House, 166 Athletic Drive, Shelburne Cash Bar.

$5 suggested donation for Shelburne’s Pierson Library’s new building fund.

Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and flashlights/solar lights to celebrate Earth Hour.

Earth Hour was started by the World Wide Fund for Nature. The goal is to turn off all non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol of commitment to the planet and raise awareness of energy consumption. 7000 cities in 187 countries will participate. This year it is from 8:30 to 9:30 on March 30th.

    Construction Update!

    Construction Update
The construction site is dug out and things are moving along. Some snow came in the new building during the storm but work was not impeded.

Lately, a big topic for the project has been electricity. Meetings have been held to ensure that enough outlets will be installed in the right places. The Library has recently initiated a self-check-out interface (stop by and try it out!) and the Historical Society has received a grant to purchase a scanner for historical documents. These needs, and many others, are being considered as the electrician begins to finalize the wiring.

In addition, the Committee has begun the process of interviewing companies who responded to the RFP for the new building to host a rooftop solar array. The Committee will soon make its recommendation to the Selectboard so that construction can be scheduled in coordination with the project timeline.

As always, thank you for your support of this Town project

Are you a Friend of Pierson Library?

The Friends of the Pierson Library is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization made up of members dedicated to the library.

The purpose of the Friends is to raise funds in support of the library which cover expenses that are beyond operating costs.  This includes funding for special programs, library materials and equipment, which enhances the community resource center.  The Friends also made $60,000 in gifts toward the new library this year!

In addition to membership dues, the Friends raise funds through an annual book sale (next one will be this Fall!) and an ongoing sale in the library.

Meetings are on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm.

If you are not a member of the Friends but would like to join, you can send a check to Friends of Pierson Library, 5376 Shelburne Rd., Shelburne, VT 05465.  Or pick up a membership form at the front desk of the library.

Thanks for all you do, Friends!

    Progress on the New Library

     Photos by Lee Krohn

It is an exciting time at the construction site! Steel is going up; that work will continue for another few weeks. Every day it looks more and more like a building! Site stormwater work has begun and will continue with the goal of completion this season. The exterior work to Town Hall to make it snug for the winter should be completed over the next week, allowing interior work to continue while the snow falls.

Members of the community have donated $500,000 to match the $500,000 pledge made to the project by a generous anonymous donor. Since last October when the matching challenge was announced, 426 donors have made 519 gifts ranging from $2 to $100,000, with a typical donation of around $100. Thank you to everyone who helped fund raise, and special thanks to everyone who showed they care by donating to this effort!
